Assessments and reports are billed at our standard hourly rate of $193.99.
Costs vary depending on the type of assessment and report.

Sometimes, a formal assessment is needed for diagnosis, school entry, or funding applications. If a doctor, specialist, or school has requested a written assessment, our therapists can guide you on the best type of assessment and who should complete it.
Assessments can be done as part of a multidisciplinary evaluation, where we collaborate with other professionals to help guide or provide opinions on a diagnosis. We can also complete assessments to support school funding applications.
Mobile Therapy

$193.99 per hour.
As of July 1st, we are no longer able to provide travel services for Plan Managed clients due to recent rate changes. However, we continue to support Self-Managed NDIS participants at our standard hourly rate.

We offer mobile speech therapy at child care centres and kindergartens. School visits may be possible with school approval—parents will need to confirm permission with the school first. Please note that home visits are not currently available.

An initial consultation is the first step in understanding your child’s communication needs. During this session, we’ll review your child’s history, make some informal observations, and carry out a simple screening to see their strengths and challenges.
The clinician will carefully look over the screening results to help decide the best way to support your child. After the consultation, you’ll have a clear picture of your child’s needs and a plan for the next steps in therapy.
Online Therapy

This will be conducted via telehealth.
Our therapy sessions are conducted on a 45-minute virtual face-to-face basis, with an additional 15 minutes allocated for recording session notes and/or receiving client/carer feedback.

Our online therapy sessions provide flexible and effective support from the comfort of your home. Sessions are tailored to your child's needs, using engaging activities to support speech and language development.

After your initial session, your speech pathologist will discuss your treatment plan, recommended session frequency, and set joint therapy goals with you.
Goals are reviewed approximately every term to track progress and ensure therapy remains aligned with your child’s needs.
Sessions are engaging, evidence-based, and tailored to support meaningful communication outcomes.
Group Therapy

Our group therapy programs run during school holidays, focusing on social communication, early literacy, and other key skills in a fun and supportive environment. Click below to see our current group offerings.

If your child can stay engaged for the full session, the assessment can usually be completed in one hour. If more time is needed, we can split it across multiple sessions.

We have a guideline for the typical time and approximate costs. If the process is more complex and takes longer, the cost may vary. Our reception team can provide a fee breakdown.

Existing families: Talk to your therapist about any deadlines for your report so we can plan ahead.
New families: If you need an assessment for funding, diagnosis, or another reason, contact our friendly admin team. They’ll help you book a time with one of our therapists and guide you through the next steps.
We generally require at least two weeks to write up reports, so please keep this in mind when booking.
FAQs About Assessments
Funding and Rebates
We recognise that paying for ongoing therapy costs can be expensive. The following options are available to assist with managing these costs and we encourage you to explore your eligibility on the schemes listed.
We recommend visiting Speech Pathology Australia's website under 'Speech pathology fees, rebates and funded programs' for further guidance.

Medicare offers several rebates to help reduce the cost of speech therapy. These rebates are available through different programs, depending on your child’s needs and circumstances. You’ll need a referral from your GP or specialist to access them.
Chronic Condition Management Plan (from 1 July 2025):
The referral process has been simplified. Your GP now only needs to write a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) referral.
You no longer need a separate “team care arrangement.”
Children can access up to 5 rebated allied health sessions per calendar year (shared across services like speech, OT, physio).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services:
If your child identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, they may be able to access up to 10 extra rebated sessions each year, in addition to the 5 under the chronic condition plan.
This requires a referral from your GP after a health check.

Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) Package:
This program has been developed to facilitate the early diagnosis and treatment of children with autism. A child can be referred by a consultant paediatrician or psychiatrist for allied health services including speech pathology.
Children diagnosed with autism or an eligible disability can access:
Up to 8 assessment sessions (lifetime limit).
Up to 20 therapy sessions (lifetime limit).

The NDIS provides funding support for children with a disability or developmental delay. Plans are usually reviewed each year.
From 19 May 2025, the NDIS will introduce funding periods. This means:
Your child’s overall plan funding will stay the same.
Funds will be released in smaller blocks (most commonly every 3 months, though some may be 1, 6 or 12 months).
Funding periods may apply to the whole plan or just certain supports.
Families will need to plan therapy carefully within each period to avoid running out of funds before the next release.
Who is affected: New participants after 19 May 2025, and anyone having a plan reassessment after that date.
Who is not affected yet: Families with plans that started before 19 May 2025, or plans that have simply been extended without a reassessment.
Babble Bees currently provides services to plan-managed and self-managed NDIS participants. Our therapists can help families map therapy across funding periods and support you in planning for extras such as holiday intensives or group programs.

Some private health funds offer rebates for speech therapy under “extras” cover.
What’s new: From 1 April 2025, the government rebate on private health insurance changed slightly. From 1 July 2025, income thresholds increased, which may mean some families can now claim a higher rebate percentage.
What this means for speech therapy: If your policy includes speech therapy, you can claim part of your session cost back. The rebate amount and number of sessions covered depend on your fund and level of cover.
How to claim: Bring your receipt to your health fund or use on-the-spot claiming (HICAPS) if available.
