  • Woman at her desk talking on the phone, with a notepad and a laptop, thinking about a family of three, possibly her own, in her mind.

    4. Initial Consultation

You attend your child’s initial consultation, where we gather further information, discuss goals, and begin planning support tailored to your child and family.

Concerned about your child’s speech, language, or communication?

If you’ve noticed your child isn’t communicating in the way you expected - or you’re unsure whether this is a speech delay, social communication difference, or something else - you’re not alone.

Many families come to us feeling worried, confused, or unsure where to start.

Our role is to help you understand your child’s communication profile and guide you toward the right next step.

  • This is one of the most common reasons families contact us.

Some children experience delays in speech or language development.
Others show differences in how they use communication socially - such as interaction, play, or back-and-forth communication.
These experiences can overlap, and it’s not always clear at first what kind of support will be most helpful.

That’s why our process begins by listening carefully to your concerns and learning about your child as an individual

  • Families usually reach out to us because they’ve noticed things like:

    Speech & Language Concerns

    • Using fewer words than expected for their age

    • Speech that’s difficult to understand

    • Frustration when trying to express wants or needs

    • Delayed first words or sentences

    Social Communication Differences

    • Limited back-and-forth interaction or engagement

    • Difficulty using language socially

    • Repeating words or phrases

    • Differences in play, attention, or interaction with others

Both of these are valid reasons to seek support — and both begin with the same intake process.

  • Babble Bees Speech Therapy is based in Footscray, Victoria, and we support families within approximately a 30-minute driving radius.

Availability varies and fills quickly. Completing the intake survey allows us to assess fit and match families with the most appropriate clinician.
